In screen printing and transfers, the desired colors can be reproduced almost perfectly, but in embroidery, the range of color shades is limited to the shades available in the thread chart.

Many use this to determine color shades, but sometimes the right shade is found from another thread manufacturer, even though Madeira's thread chart includes over 400 shades.
If the image to be embroidered has a gradient, it must be converted to a single color. Although embroidery software can create gradients for the image, the final result may not look the same as it does on the computer screen or the printed version on paper.
Most embroideries use 1 or 2 colors. However, the image to be embroidered can have up to 15 different colors. Multicolor works are more demanding and therefore more expensive to produce. The image below has 12 color shades. Wouldn't you think there are fewer?
